Message from Secretary

We take an opportunity to enlighten the detailed development activities for the betterment of our society while presenting the annual report of 2023-2024. The organization has lain due emphasis on enhancement of lifestyle of poor and disadvantageous section of urban population in the development process.

While on the one hand the use of drugs and alcohol is increasing, on the other hand we find that social taboos emphasize on self-restraint, discipline inherent in a joint family system and traditional moorings are eroding. Among other factors, the fast-changing social milieu arising out of this social and economic transition which the country is going through is contributing to the proliferation of drug abuse.

This year, we worked on more number of people who are addicted as well as mentally disabled in compare to previous. We do modification in our treatment process for the betterment of patient. Beside that we appoint some new doctors, therapist and stuffs for the sake of patient.

We also organize more awareness activity, cultural event with the patient and also provide some capacity building training to the recovery patient so that they cannot get back to the addiction life. And can establish themselves as self-independent person in society. And spread awareness among the people about the HIV and Hepatitis. We successfully spread our awareness on a large area in West Bengal.

I would like to give thanks to the local administration, the panchayats pradhan, local MLA, all the well-wisher and the stuff of our organization for their immense support throughout the journey. Everyone's joint effort has helped our organization reach every milestone that we have achieved so far.

On behalf of Sonarpur Moonlight Foundation we are ready to take one step forward to fulfill our dream to make an addiction free society as well as give support to the mentally ill patient throughout their treatment.

Message from President

This organization "Sonarpur Moonlight Foundation" has been working on mentally ill and addicted patient as a de-addiction center since 2011. We also take part in self-dependent activities by the help of local government and well-wisher. We have had good results among the women group, through the sewing program.

By arranging some awareness camp we spread awareness about the bad effect of drug use and the destruction of mental health. We work on different areas to stop the drug addiction and to save our future generation from drug addiction. Antidrug awareness is the core of our agenda as it helps stop the spread of AIDS.

Mentally ill patients who are suffering from addiction, depression, anxiety, anger issues are also treated in our foundation as we feel that a person with a good mentality will also make a good member in our society. During our journey we have received a lot of help from our local authorities and support from the government. Local counselor is take active part to give support to our self- help group activities.

Hopefully we achieve our mission by taking slow and steady step. We know many families have been destroyed by the use of alcohol and drugs. It is a very bad disease and mal practice that damages many lives. I hope we are going slowly step by step to achieve our mission. We are promising that we will do the hard work and will never give up on our dream to make an addiction free society for the youth. We want to thank everyone and expect their support in our future endeavors.

Dream & Vision

We believe that people should be empowered to take control of their own mental health and with any necessary support, to build self-confidence and resilience through the help of positive and constructive relationships. We believe that, with support, people living with poor mental health and wellbeing can return to a fully independent and happy life, where they have the confidence to make their own choices and where they are empowered to build on their own wellbeing.

To create an environment in which everyone feels supported throughout their mental health and recovery journey. Equity of access to person-centered mental health services and decision support services that deliver high-quality care and support. We are a Non Governmental Organization in India extending holistic mental healthcare facilities to people from every socio-economic category.

Mission

Our mission is to make our institute "Sonarpur Moonlight Foundation" one of the leading organizations which is equipped with proper infrastructure to provide best treatment to the addicted as well as mentally ill patients. Strive to enhance equitable accessibility of primary care in Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder to all sections of society and ages including the vulnerable population. As a rehabilitation center, one of our main objectives is to address mental issues.

We work to help people by serving mental health, de-addiction and community support needs through direct service, policy advocacy and outreach. Our objective is to enhance mental health awareness, promote individual empowerment and increase access to treatment and services for persons living with mental illness.

Activities Throughout the Year

1. Programme on 26th June

World Anti-Drug Day

International day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking observed on 26th June 2023. Like all previous years we celebrated World Anti Drug Day at Sonarpur Moonlight Foundation in this year. Our General Secretary Shri Biswajit Debnath, respected IPS officer Shri Mohit Mollah, Shri Sanjib Chakraborty (I.C Sonarpur P.S) and Sri Arghya Mondal (Officer Sonarpur P.S) were present in this ceremony. The main theme of the ceremony was to protect the students fraternity from drug addiction.

2. Doctor's Day Celebration

1st July

The 1st July 2023 in the afternoon the Doctors Day celebration was performed in the organization's hall room. All members of the organization attended this ceremony. On behalf of Sonarpur Moonlight Foundation our General Secretary Sri Biswajit Debnath facilitated respected Professor Dr. Srijit Ghosh on this Doctor's Day event. Prof Dr. Srijit Ghosh is the HOD of Department of Psychiatry at Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital. After that all the board members and medical staff facilitated Dr. Srijit Ghosh as well.

3. World Hepatitis Day

28th July

On the occasion of World Hepatitis Day, 28th July 2023, we took various activities to celebrate. We organized an awareness tableau at Rajpur, Sonarpur, Mallikpur and Baruipur. From this tableau we distributed leaflets provided by health department. We organized a viral Hepatitis health camp among the high-risk population on 27th July 2023 in Mallikpur.

Future Plans & Gratitude

Main Subjects & Focus Areas:

To create employment opportunities for recovering addicts and stable mental health patients with the help of the government.
Community development and capacity building training through workshops.

Our Future Plan:

Establishment of a 100-bedded Mental Health Care Hospital.
Organizing 60 awareness camps for drug de-addiction, HIV, Hepatitis B & C, and Mental Health issues.
